How is UpToDate® different from other resources I use?

UpToDate® is unlike any other clinical resource:

  • More comprehensive than any other individual resource, UpToDate contains the equivalent of over 77,000 pages of original, peer-reviewed text.
  • Its unique format and search capability allow you to access answers to clinical questions quickly and easily. You get the answer you need when you need it.
  • It is written, reviewed and continuously updated by over 5,100 physicians to ensure that the content remains current.
  • This expert faculty synthesizes all relevant information, including the latest evidence, and provides specific, practical recommendations for diagnosis and treatment.
  • It combines broad coverage of adult primary care, subspecialty internal medicine, ob/gyn, general surgery and pediatrics.

How often is the content updated?

We update our online content continuously. When using UpToDate® for Desktop with an active internet connection, the content will automatically be updated each time the application is started.

When using an UpToDate mobile app with an active internet connection, the app pulls the most recent content from the UpToDate servers.

When using UpToDate MobileComplete™ with an active internet connection, the app checks for content updates each time it communicates with the UpToDate servers. UpToDate will continuously load small updates in the background and prompt the user to download major content updates with a WiFi internet connection.

How does UpToDate® stay current?

UpToDate® performs a continuous comprehensive review of more than 460 journals to keep the program updated. Topics in UpToDate are revised whenever important new information is published, not according to any specific time schedule. Each topic has a date indicating when the topic was last reviewed and/or updated. Updates are integrated carefully, with specific statements as to how the new findings should be applied clinically. The most important updates can be viewed by clicking What's New on the toolbar and then choosing your specialty or area of interest. The What's New section includes Practice Changing UpDates, a compilation of studies with important or immediate implications for how clinicians practice.

NOTE: For the desktop installation, you must personalize your toolbar to include the What's New link.
